Kairagi is one of traditional techniques for Japanese pottery, originally for Edo chawan bowl which has a granular and crisp surface on the bottom of bowl. 

It has a unique appearance created by the shrinking of the glaze.
In the world of tea ceremony, people have enjoyed its taste as "scenery".

Hyozan-gama

When Yozaemon, the fourth master of the Hyozan-gama, presented pottery to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who unified Japan in 1590, his technique was praised and he was given a red seal of approval and the surname "Hashiba". The studio has a long tradition of pottery production.
