Tokoname-Yaki (常滑焼)

Tokoname-yaki (常滑焼) is one of Japan's prestigious Six Ancient Kilns (Rokkoyo). "The Six Ancient Kilns of Japan" is a collective term for six representative pottery production areas with historic roots that have continuously produced ceramics from the medieval period to the present day. Boasting a pottery tradition in Aichi Prefecture that stretches back over 1,000 years, the defining feature of traditional Tokoname ware is its iron-rich clay, which is traditionally fired unglazed (Yakishime).

Tokoname Teapot (Kyusu)

The yokode kyusu (side-handled teapot) is the quintessential symbol of Tokoname craftsmanship. It is considered by many green tea enthusiasts to be the finest vessel for brewing loose-leaf tea like sencha.
